THE MOVIES PLOT

Based on Native American Folk Lore, every several hundred years a dark solar eclipse occurs - the closest the moon is ever to the earth - that opens a portal into a non-linear dark dimension that swallows any man or animal into it's realm. As far as anyone knows, no one has escaped this doorway and the entire town of Splinter, Texas is no exception. A normal eclipse only lasts a few minutes, but anyone drawn into the center of the quantum portal are trapped in darkness for the rest of their live, with other unknowns from previous events left inside, constantly fighting to survive.

The film follows the lives of a Splinter Town Sheriff [Ramos], a local town trouble making employee [Eskridge] and his girlfriend [Payton], a married couple [real married couple; Lisa & Michael Pierce], four teens who skipped school, a small group of often more wrong than right conspiracy theorists [Moreau], and a divorced couple [Goddard & Mapesfighting over property rights. Some will survive the paranormal event others will die.

HOW THE SCRIPT EVOLVED

The films script was based on a short story created by D. R. Quintana in 2006, while he was producing Star Trek Beyond in New  London, CT.  Many of the main characters from the short story remained the same, but over time during the films production, the director found it reasonable to add new characters with sub plots to extend the films running time.

HOW FILMING WAS PLANNED

The entire film was planned to be shot entirely on iPhone 16 Pro Max's with limited lighting during day scenes and controlled lighting during night scenes. The film began production in the spring on 2024 in San Antonio, eventually moving back to Montgomery, TX to close out the remaining scenes needed in production. Stationary Gimbles and a few  magnetically mounted arms were used during the entire shoot, limiting the need to dismantle and move tripods and other rigs from one scene to another. All the films footage was then transferred to a computer and edited at a later time.

The films script was shot out of sequence and several short subplots were added to either extend the films running time or to add depth for character development. Many of the secondary actors and extras brought into the film had no acting experience and the entire production was considered "all volunteer." The director states that the results of the huge collaboration and the new actors performances wound up being the real strength for the film and that they all executed their part far better than expected.

The Producer/Director also reached out to several film teams in three states to produce short parts in the film. Each team was allowed to bend the scripted stories provided to them, giving them all creative control. One team was located in Dallas, Texas, another was located in Boulder, CO, and the third team from New York, NY. Each new team would use their own format, but need to produce their own all volunteer film scenes, shot with a iPhone 16 Pro Max at 6K or 8K.

CASTING

The director was wanting to expand his acting team by training new actors to fill in parts of the film.  By the spring of 2024, the entire cast was led with a new actress as the lead. In April, the film began shooting over the course of two days with Val Jean Eskridge II and Torri Payton in San Antonio. April Lynn and her mother [Michelle] played the parts of human cannibals during the shoot.

Two months later, shooting took place in Temple, TX with new actors Lisa and Michael Pierce. Over the course of five hours, the scenes were completed and edited together in under an hour. The director initially met Lisa at a Lake Livingston Urban Cowboy Reunion event a few months earlier, where the idea of adding Jessie Mapes to the film was brought up and was kicked around between a new team of actors.

Due to most of the new leading cast members being committed to another project, production was put on hold for the rest of the 2024. When some of the newly acquired actors began to drop work for the film, the Producer/Director turned to some of his most loyal, veteran actors to help complete the film; which led to Saira Ramos taking the lead spot as Sheriff Ripp. Jessie Mapes later agreed to be part of the film and production began on a new sequence of scenes for Quantum Eclipse in August of 2025 in a small town called Yorktown, TX.

During the latter phases of production, the Producer/Director added an extra scene to the film that required the casting of four teens from Montgomery, TX, who worked extensively over the course of three weeks to complete their part. This subplot was also an extension to the Quantum Storm Universe that might lead to another set of films in the near future. The four teens are penciled in to take part in the studios next indie film adventure, WEREWOLF in Splinter, Texas; a horror/dark comedy. Saira Ramos is still lined up to lead a new mini-series on Tiktok called GRIPS.

FILMING LOCATIONS

Film teams were responsible for scouting their own locations, filing for permits, and having Release Forms on hand. Quintana-Lujan found new spectacular locations in Yorktown, Katy, Temple and San Antonio, TX. The movie left a lot of room for finding newer locations in The Woodlands and several other places that once seemed out of the reach for confirming permission.

One last minute location was The Game Preserve in The Woodlands, Texas. The film team acquired permission to shoot their scenes and did though in an efficient, professional manner. The location gave access to the team filming in an 80s style video and pinball arcade.
